Poor solubility and rapid degradation in acidic environments

Question: Do you have suggestions for a product that’s demonstrating poor solubility and rapid degradation in acidic environments?

Response: An IriSys client was having problems formulating a compound for oral administration that was characterized by low solubility in both water and oil, and degraded rapidly in acid.  Our solution involved developing a semi-solid matrix that withstood the heating necessary for it to be liquified for capsule filling. The capsules were enteric-coated to protect the active ingredient from degradation in acid. Our client had a very positive outcome, with preclinical and human studies demonstrating significant improvement in bioavailability.
