The IriSys Culture
Mahatma Gandhi said, “A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people.” The same can be said of IriSys’ culture. We believe that our people – highly regarded scientists and engineers, functional experts, diligent administrative professionals, and a dedicated management team – are the core of our organization.
The IriSys culture is illustrated by the belief that our employees are the foundation of the Company. They are treated with respect and as equals. IriSys’ appreciation of our employees’ capabilities is demonstrated by the significant level of autonomy allowed in decision making, developing new ideas, and personal expression.
Education & Enrichment
IriSys is supportive of the continuing education of our employees, as related to both their functional responsibilities and their extracurricular pursuits. We have a monthly “Enrichment” seminar, a brown-bag midday event during which speakers present a topic of interest for employees who want to participate in lunchtime learning. The Foundation for Personal Financial Education recently presented a “Fiscally Fit Workshop Series”, which was well-received by the attendees.

There is broad cultural diversity at IriSys, which we believe engenders greater innovation and creativity in the organization’s outputs. The wide range of perspectives and approaches to an issue can lead to more creative problem-solving and more effective solutions. As we reap the benefits of our distinctive workforce, we strive to develop intercultural competence and awareness.
Celebrating the IriSys Spirit
On the lighthearted side, orchestrating the spirit of the Company takes on many forms, including gatherings, meetings, events, activities, programs, “freebies” and entertainment. Every quarter we have a “get together” and celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. Our “Cinco de Mayo festival”, for example, was held outdoors under a tent with tables and catered authentic Mexican food.
We recognize that our employees have a life outside of IriSys. They have families, obligations, and other passions. We keep that in mind when time away from IriSys is requested. Errands and appointments sometimes have to take place during work hours. We understand and respect that, and whenever possible we work around our employees’ needs.
We also recognize that family matters. Once a year, usually during the summer months, we have a Company event for all employees and their families. Last year, the IriSys families were treated to a day at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park with activities, animal education, and (of course!) food.
As a relatively small company, we try our best to be good corporate citizens. IriSys holds fund raisers a few times a year to aid community organizations, with a focus on food programs for needy children. We participate in the San Diego Food Bank initiative – Food 4 Kids Backpack Program, which distributes weekend food packages to chronically hungry elementary school students from low-income households. IriSys also supports “Rice Bowls – Fill Bowl – Fight Hunger”, a program that provides meals to children around the world through partnerships with orphanages.
